You know, you really should have planned this out.

I'm not a Johnny on the spot, never was. So when we canceled our trip to Montana and beyond, just two days before departing....that meant that I would be planning a trip, just two days before departing!

First I called around and canceled all of our reservations that we had made 4-8 months prior. Then, I began booking online and when necessary making the dreaded calls.

'Oh boy, we are in the peak of summer, you really should have called sooner' the well intentioned employee would tell me. 'This really should be better planned out'. Sigh...

Despite our challenges, somehow we almost put a 3 week road trip together flawlessly, except for one 25 foot oversight!

I got this feeling, while in Santa Barbara that I overlooked a step. After reaching out to our next campground, my hunch was confirmed. The campground in Avila had room for our RV and car, but definitely not our 25' car hauler, definitely not!

I reached out to my childhood friend Marina and asked is she would have room at her house. She guesstimated that she did and when she got back from taking her darling Mom to lunch, she would confirm.

Not long after, we received some pics and a thumbs up. Marina said we were good to go! Phew!

So we drove straight to her neighborhood, unloaded the car on a flat stretch of her street and then continued on up to her home. Doug parked the trailer and off we went to the campground.

The next night we were stoked to not only see Marina but Doug's former brother-in-law Marty. It's a small world and we learned early on when we were dating, that Marina and Marty had been wind surfing friends for decades. It was really nice to have dinner together and to share some laughs.

Meanwhile, Haley and Frankie were paling around with Aunt Daph (pictured) and Uncle Sean (didn't capture pic) at her distillery and at home. These girls know how to party!

A day or two later, we met Marina and her Mom, again missed photo op with regret - for her Mom is such a doll and sweet woman - at the dog beach and let our dogs go wild. I made up some essential oil samples for Marina on the back of her truck.

The next night, we had dinner with Matt and Meagan, which was such a delight! Who knew there would be exotic and vintage cars gathered right below where our table was along with live music. It was really nice to catch up and hear more about their wedding next Spring!

One last gathering with Marina on Tuesday for breakfast before we shoved off on Wednesday. Upon departure I gave her my famous banana bread, a soulful hug for all that she did for us and how much I love her and off we went.

Three cheers for Marina who is a bad ass friend on so many levels.
