Disclaimer: Not for the faint of heart, this one is a bit more graphic than my usual posts.

We were systematically filing into
our favorite corner of Campland
for our annual family staycation and
OTL tourney....
our RV was already tucked away
in our usual spot. I was now
approaching in our golf cart
with Doug not far behind
me in his truck.
There was the usual flurry of kids on all kinds of wheel based transport along with some strolling with a skim board or fishing rod. Out of the corner of my eye I spot a squirrel heading straight for my golf cart, between the front and back tires.
I decide to stay at my steady pace of literally 1 mile per hour, so as not to disrupt the squirrel's aim to run through my wheels to the other side.
That's when I heard a loud pop, as if someone had popped a big balloon, but it was coming from under my left rear tire. I stop, look back over my left shoulder and felt immediate relief from seeing zero blood - phew. Then, at second glance I realized that a poor squirrel had it's back half of them flattened but was still alive and it's front half was trying to get away.
I put my face in my hands and let out a cathartic... ugly cry...... completely unabashed. A nice lady from the neighboring campsite came out to see if I was ok.
She starts with, 'oh, don't worry, there are thousands of them here, no one will miss it'. I continue to blubber and finally my string of consciousness came flying out...'My Mom died, we are selling our childhood home and this squirrel is suffering!'
Ah.... there it was!
The full on, balls to the walls - bawling, that I knew was coming, just didn't know when or where.
I did know why.
It was a relief and a pivotal point for me. You see, a lot of water has gone under my keel this year.

We temporarily moved back into our home on May 1st after being out of it for almost one year (a story for another blog) we had 18 days to do some major repairs and have a good review of how our home was faring as a short term rental.
The very next evening my dear Mom
who was 92, passed away peacefully
in her home. As the universe and all of her wisdom always has it figured out,
we were only a mile or two down the street from my childhood home and
the first ones there.
I laid down on the floor with her, held her hand and shared how grateful I was for all that she did and how happy I was that she will now be with Dad (and maybe meet Elvis).
I later learned that although she had technically passed shortly before our arrival, she was still in the room.
I felt that.
The rest of May was full of planning. Planning her celebration of life, planning a massive clean out of our childhood home and all of the planning that these events entail. I lived in my parasympathetic nervous system part of the time and grief the other.
On the outside I was keeping up with yoga, my AA meetings and of course leaning into my doTERRA products. I'm grateful for my family and close friends, as that really kept me lifted up. Sure I had the intermittent moments of sadness and melancholy, but I hadn't had the big cry.... yet.
Then....July rolls around, I find myself at Campland to soak up some good vibes and this happens. Oh, and I hadn't mentioned that meanwhile, Doug had arrived in his truck, only to see a group of kids gathered around my golf cart. His first thought was, 'oh no, she hit a kid' as he calmly approached the scene of the crime, only to find a group of kids watching the poor squirrel army crawling and me bawling.
Of course, the first thing we did is to stop the suffering, or shall I say - Doug did. Then, I shook it off, best I could and unpacked for our staycation.
We were able to have a really nice time. Swimming, boating, watching live music and eating ice cream. Of course the highlight for me was Haley coming to visit with our two granddaughters - Zeina and Frankie, along with her Au Pair Lia. We tie dyed t-shirts one day. Swam in the bay another. Then participated in the family olympics. It had been a while since I had tried to win a potato sack race!
We had fun at OTL. Casey's partner Mike played with his own team and they did well. This was Doug's 50th year playing in the OTL tourney and he's still got it! They played really well and had a lot of fun doing so. After all, that's what it is about.
I will do my best to get back on my blog train, for I enjoy writing and based on the clicks and what my guide, Britney says - it's a fun and productive way to connect.
I believe that connections are so vital for good living, in fact it's part of why I enjoy this... it gives me a chance to connect with you!
The last convo I had with my Mom was summer of 2025, as she had Alzeimers and our chats wained long before she transitioned.
I went up to my childhood home, where she still lived, to say bye before our annual road trip and she looked at me and said 'I don't know who you are and I don't remember your name....but I feel you right here' and pointed to her heart.
That sums it up so well. None of the details really matter. The fact that we find space in each other's hearts to connect, relate and love is truly what matters the most.

Out of the hands of babes....
Frankie says everything is A-OK.
Until next time.... I send my love and gratitude, Shari
