Come Together... Right Now

We recently relocated to my daughter's home to embark on a memorable chapter together. As we all get ready for her new baby's arrival, I'm reminded of the importance of staying connected.
Our naturopath - Dr. Moira Fitzpatrick was sharing her perspective about this last winter as I visited her clinic weekly for a few months of therapy - or what I like to call 'a check up from the neck up'.
Dr. Moira says that we benefit from having various layers of connections and that it's important to keep these various layers time proportionate.
She emphasized the importance of allocating our time wisely by giving the largest portion to our 'in the know' group, a slightly smaller portion to our 'no time has passed' group, and a modest portion to our 'once in a blue moon' group. The time distribution should be proportional to effectively rejuvenate us.

IN THE KNOW - Our inner circle includes only a select few individuals who are always there. This could be your biological family or the family you choose, but either way, they are your family. These are the people you can rely on and who rely on you. I understand why this group is ideally the largest, as it is where your roots are established, allowing you to truly relax in your parasympathetic nervous system.
NO TIME HAS PASSED - Are your chosen friends and other family who you can call after any amount of time has passed without keeping track of how long it's been or who called most recently. You are effortlessly back in stride and connected. These friendships not only impact you in the best of ways, it also brightens your IN THE KNOW circle because you return bolstered up and have new stories to share.
I also have two really treasured groups that fall into this category and bring me much joy. One is my AA community and the other is our Yoga community.
My Sunday morning meeting that is always a packed room of men and women, some are newcomers, old timers and everyone shares right from their heart. It is steeped in honesty woven with levity. It is truly soul food and leaves me feeling a part of.
Another meeting I cherish is the La Jolla Women's Group on Mondays. I first attended this meeting at the age of 25, shortly after becoming a new mom and being three years sober. Over the past 34+ years, the wonderful women in this group have taught me how to be a mother, daughter, sister, and friend. While my own mom showed me how to have fun, this sacred women's group imparted many valuable life lessons beyond just humor. Each time I attend this meeting, it feels like coming home.

Something that I share the gratitude of with Doug is our yoga community. We attend weekly and are always so happy to see our fellow yogis. It is a community full of love, encouragement and kindness. Just what our country needs more of right now. Love More!
ONCE IN A BLUE MOON - Lastly, those random connections also hold their own value but as Dr. Moira taught me, are best enjoyed when they are right sized, time wise. Doug says strangers are friends that I just haven't met yet and that is true.

Karina taught me that I am you and you are me. We can learn from everyone. Sometimes from being mentored other times from seeing dark shadows played out before our eyes, reminding us how we don't want to show up in the world. Either way, these serendipitous moments are always a gift.
There truly is a time & a place for all of these layers of connections. Family, dear friends, treasured communities of friends & people that we might only encounter once in a blue moon, all add to our human experience.
I realize we live in a bubble full of love, care and kindness and for that I'm grateful for our circle that is such a soft landing in a world that isn't always so.
In Gratitude,
Shari
This week's blog has been brought to you by Balance. This doTERRA product is offered as an Essential Oil, a Deodorant and a Bath Bar.

Put 5-8 drops in your diffuser to feel a sense of grounding, great for meditation.
Put 1-2 drops on the bottom of your big toe before getting out of bed in the morning to ground your day.

What do we mean by "natural"? We mean the Natural Deodorant infused with doTERRA Balance Essential Oil is formulated:
With primarily naturally derived ingredients
Without aluminum, parabens, phthalates, talc, propylene glycol, artificial fragrances, or artificial dyes
Full transparency, I will use my old go-to deodorants - the one that is so strong it says you can even skip a day, for a big event like a family wedding, etc.

This is one of our tried and true staples. We use this and the moisturizing bar on a daily basis. This is a great one for someone who is switching from a very pine based bar, for the balance aroma is very woodsy.
