Half way to Maine!

In walks a man into the campground office, exhaling a big puff of cigarette smoke with a shit ass grin on his face. I turned to look at what all the commotion was about, while waiting for the woman at the desk to finish her call with a future guest.
He begins speaking regardless of her being on a call and me being a bit taken aback by his entrance. 'I shot him two times in the head', he proclaims with great pride. I inwardly gasp and continue taking this all in. 'Yep, at 5am this mornin' I went to turn on my mower and from here to there, I saw a rattle snake. So, I whipped out my gun (motions from his hip) and just shot him, right then and there.'
I continued to just watch, not knowing what to say about this. Smiling enough to keep from sending judgement from my beach hippie, arms are for hugging, perspective to him. He slammed down the rattle on the desk, all the while the woman was still on the phone, then exited with great bravado.
When the woman finished up her call and greeted me, I asked who that was (hoping it wasn't a fellow camper and thinking it was the maintenance man) she replied, 'that's Chris the owner of this campground.' We had a nice stay sans any more gunshots.
The following morning, we made it down the road a ways and we've found a good rhythm to our routine. We try to hit the road by 9am and hope to get 'there' by 4pm. Although most days are under 300 miles, it takes the better part of the day since we are 50' in total. We stop for gas and give Maggie breaks, to keep our tank over half and hers under half.
Each day is brought to you by a different artist; Michael Franti, Zac Brown, Santana, Jimmy Buffet, Eric Clapton and Elton John. Followed up with a humorous AA Speakers meeting. We aren't setting up our outdoor living space, knowing that we'll be on the road again the next morning. Our wifi has worked all but one night, giving us our nightly routine of watching our current favorite shows; Suits and Maine Cabin Masters.

We arrived in Tulsa, my Mom's hometown, on Sunday. Knowing that we'd be here for an extra day, we pulled out the car to go visit family and friends. Today we are visiting Karen and Judi Moon. Our D
ad's were in the military together back when they were 19. My parents were newly married and the three of them would road trip in their '47 Ford and drop off Jim to see his future wife, Rosie. After my Dad and Rosie passed, Jim and my Mom found love. They were adorable together, playing music and reminiscing about back in the day.
Last night we had a wonderful evening at my cousin's house, Deb and Terry with one of her triplet sister's Dana (all pictured above). Doug hadn't met them and it had been a long time since we connected in person. I feel fortunate that they are not only my family, but dear friends. They have a lovely home and more so, are all heart and soul. We could have stayed a week!
That's enough for now...this week we are off to Missouri, Illinois and ultimately Akron, Ohio where AA was founded. I've heard about this place since 11.2.88, the day I began my journey of living life on the natural, or as the old timers put it - keeping the plug in the jug.
I'll be back at my computer next Monday. Have a beautiful week. Be love in the world!
